MITCH DANIELS LIES
CAN WE TRUST THE HEAD OF THE OMB? |

February 5, 2002, talking with CNN's Paula Zahn, Mitch Daniels, claimed that last year, fiscal 2001, the government paid $100 billion against the national debt.
This is an absolute lie. Unless I've been following the wrong figures month-by-month this tells me that you cannot trust the soft spoken head of the President's Office of Management and Budgets. Witness the following: |

| The above table lists monthly reports by the Treasury's Bureau of Public Debt. Do you suppose that the bank missed a $34 billion payment? Maybe Mr. Daniels is more of an administrator than an accountant or just not very good with numbers. Do you see why you can't trust anyone other than the Treasury when it comes to numbers? The table above also shows the government's debt laundering operation. Where $100 billion in payments against the honest Investor side would add the same amount to the other side if that money came from an entitlement like Social Security, but the government would save $6-to-$7 billion in annual interest since the Investor side must be paid in cash while the Entitlement side only requires handing the distrust fund more bogus bonds like candy from Santa Claus, no money involved. Isn't that wonderful? |
